Koch Natural Health System: Part 2
When talking about health care, most people assume “medical care”. I would like to expand on the concept of “health care”.
I’d like to introduce the concept of the “Three Doctors”. A more complete system of health care consists of these Three Doctors.
Doctor #1 is SELF DOCTOR. First and foremost, you are responsible for you. I call this your mindstyle & lifestyle. There are 5 primary areas of SELF care:
1) Mindstyle or your Mindset/Attitude - most simply put, positive and negative thinking. How “stressed” you feel on a regular basis.
2) Diet - the quality of your diet; are there major excesses or deficiencies.
3) Sleep - the quality and quantity of sleep you get
4) Exercise - daily movement
5) Toxic Load - our environment has become increasingly flooded with thousands of chemicals. Your toxic load can be from food chemicals, work place, personal care/cosmetic chemicals, water supply, medications, mold in home, etc.
So SELF care is creating the healthiest environment for our bodies to live in. Your mindset and diet are top priority, but your sleep, exercise, and attention to your toxic load are essential also.
Doctor #2 is the NATURAL DOCTOR. This is where we come in. Natural Health care can be Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Clinical Nutrition, Craniosacral Therapy, Massage, Reiki, Naturopathic, Personal Trainer/Life Coach services, etc. These modalities support a greater level of health and can help us go further in our quest for better health. The greatest athletes in the world still have coaches.
Doctor #3 is the Medical Doctor. This is what society typically calls “health care”. Medical care is essential - some of the time. We have the most elaborate, technology based medical care system in the world, yet we rank about 30th in the general health index among major industrialized countries. We spend by far the most money, but we are in 30th place! Much of our medical system is pharmaceutical management of symptoms/conditions/diseases. Prevention and management by “SELF DOCTOR” and “NATURAL DOCTOR” should be our first lines of health care if we do not have a medical emergency.
Let me use one example to put this into proper context. A person discovers they have high blood pressure, let's say 180/110. Once it is confirmed that this is not a temporary increase from some stress, this is as not a healthy situation. Something must be done to bring that blood pressure down. If you are currently practicing self care and natural care, you need to use medical care to get the blood pressure down. Pharmaceuticals can “artificially” bring your blood pressure down, meaning your body is not doing this on its own. Whatever is causing the high blood pressure is now covered up by the pharmaceutical, but at least the blood pressure is now in a normal range. Your medical condition is under control. Now it’s time to back to the drawing board with Doctor #1 and Doctor #2 and try to discover what is causing the high blood pressure. The goal of mindstyle, lifestyle, and natural health care, is to make the medication no longer necessary. If your best efforts cannot solve the blood pressure issue, you are better off taking the medication to bring your blood pressure into a more normal range than to have high blood pressure. The big idea is that the better we do with Doctor #1 and Doctor #2, the less of Doctor #3 we need. There is a place and need for all 3 “Doctors”, yet in the US 80% of the population do not practice or use self care & natural care only medical care. Based on the results we are having as a nation, it isn’t working - only making the pharmaceutical industry richer.
